It is now 12:36 a.m., and technically my birthday is over, and although I am tired and want to go to sleep, I am compelled to start, if not finish, a list of things I want to do in my 43rd year. While the rest of the world comes up with this list by the 1st of the year, I give myself until the 10th because after all, what does a calendar year have anything to do with resolutions? I think birthdays are a much more appropriate time for personal goals. So here goes (and please forgive any misspellings are errors...I am yawning as I type):
write at least once a week
eat better
stress less
go see more bands
go on more walks with my husband
listen better
knit at least 5 hats
make more homemade gifts
be more charitable with my time
spend more time with my family
worry less about my family
draw & sketch more
Okay. This is pretty pathetic. But it's a start. I'm going to bed. Another good thing about my system is that I (as well as the people around me) celebrate my birthday for a whole week, so I have a little time to fine-tune my list. It used to be a whole month, but I think I'm also working on being less selfish....
I like the birthday list! The New Year's resolutions feel meaningless to me, so, yes, this works. Oh, and happy birthday! I thought it was the 10th. Yes, I too believe in the birthday week--celebrate away!
